James 4:4-6 - Tuesday October 19th

James 4:4-6

4You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. 5Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely?[a] 6But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:
   "God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble."[b]

Ben's Comments:

- Friendship with the world = hatred toward God.
- Friend of the world = enemy of God.
- God has given us grace - something that we don't deserve.
- He longs to spend time with us - even envies for us.

What do you think?

1. What would it look like to be friends with the world?
2. Why are we not able to go be friends of the world and friends of God?
3. Why is God jealous for us?

1 comment:

  1. 1: god would hate you, since you're not supposed to love the world
2: god thinks whoever loves the world is an enemy of him so they can't be friends with god if they're enemies
3: never understood this either: i find it rather confusing
